Cummings reports $688,000 in cash on hand

Seventh district Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Baltimore) finished the second financial quarter of 2008 with $687,579, growing his warchest from $630,247 in February.

His committee had few costs in way of expenditures, with much of it going towards donations to organizations and several Democratic candidates around the country, including $2,000 to First district hopeful Frank Kratovil (D-Stevensville).

Two Democrats who recently faced special elections received funds from Cummings, who once chaired the Congressional Black Caucus. $3,000 went to Indianapolis Rep. Andre Carson (D-Ind.) $1,000 to Travis Childers, who won an upset victory in the run-off for a staunchly Republican Mississippi district.

Cummings also sent $1,500 each to Dan Seals of Illinois and Louisiana's Don Cravins, both of whom are seeking House seats currently held by Republicans.

He faces Republican challenger Mike Hargadon in the November election, who has been raising money but is not seen as a real threat in the heavily Democratic district.
