Meekins on Blakely

PRINCETON, NJ - At the funeral of political consultant Tom Blakely, Andy Harris campaign manager Chris Meekins says he learned more under Tom Blakely's direction than in all of his other political campaigns combined.

More video rememberances of Blakely can be found at PolitickerNJ.com.

Wynn pledges to work with Edwards for good of district

LANHAM - It’s usually not a sign of coming revelry when the partygoer to reporter ratio is 1-1, or roughly what it was at various times in the IBEW building in Lanham on Tuesday night, before many of the stragglers spilled out around 11:30, leaving U.S. Rep. Albert Wynn to finally sink under the challenge of Donna Edwards.

Contestants brace for returns in the First District

With the weather creating a delay followed by a great big slowdown, the three combatants in the 1st District Congressional race are awaiting the returns on Tuesday night on the Eastern Shore.

"I don't have any numbers yet," Chris Meekins, spokesman for challenger Andy Harris, told PolitickerMD a short time ago, speaking on his cellphone from Harris's Crab House (a Harris of no relation, he noted).

E.J. Pipkin spokeswoman Andi Morony likewise expressed reservation about predicting the results in the hard fought three-way GOP primary.

Wynn arrives at IBEW HQ, predicts victory

LANHAM - Hailing Sen. Barack Obama's performance in Maryland as a victory that would help propel his own re-election, 4th District U.S. Rep. Albert Wynn moments ago arrived at his party in the IBEW building.

"I'm in his house," Wynn told the crowd of reporters as he embraced Charles E. "Chuck" Graham, business manager of IBEW Local 26.

Moments before retiring behind closed doors with Graham, the congressman said, "I predict I'll win."

Sluggish early at Wynn party

LANHAM - The polls were originally supposed to close over an hour ago, but at the IBEW building here where U.S. Rep. Al Wynn hopes to address his Democratic Party troops tonight with a victory speech, there are a handful of union men doubled over with laughter as one of their own regales them with his best recollections of the speeches of Abe Lincoln.

Scattered among empty seats and facing the podium are pressmen encumbered with cameras munching on food they've retrieved from the long catering hall style spread.

Two friends back different candidates in contentious 4th District race

MITCHELLVILLE - They stand on opposite sides of a political warzone here in the 4th Congressional District, but when the shelling is over tonight and either U.S. Rep. Al Wynn or Donna Edwards emerges victorious, Carolyn J.B. Howard and Linda Thomas will still be part of the same family, they say.

Howard, a delegate in the 24th district and deputy speaker pro tempore, proudly supports the eight-term veteran Wynn.

Obama volunteers show organizing muscle in Silver Spring

SILVER SPRING - In what is usually identified as the classic afternoon lull period of Election Day, another cluster of Obama volunteers blew in off the sleet-hammered Silver Spring streets and made their way over to Dallas Lipp, whose prominently displayed red button, "Republicans for Obama,’ produced some wary double takes.

"I was one - all my life," said Lipp, juggling a clipboard crammed with names and absorbing this next wave. "I switched my party affiliation and became a Democrat in November of last year."

Fighting on Election Day, Edwards joined by key ally

GERMANTOWN - In arguably the toughest contest in the state, 4th Congressional District challenger Donna Edwards fought back today against charges leveled at her by U.S. Rep. Al Wynn, who pointed out this morning that even as Edwards was assailing him over his 2002 Iraq War vote, she was working for a foundation that took money from energy giant Halliburton.
