Stupid Things We See While Driving....

This should become a regular feature. I invite your stories--must be from withing 50 miles of Annapolis please.

1. A pickup truck on 95 south just north of Baltimore. Huge signs and stickers for every Republican candidate but mainly Andy Harris adorn the truck. A sticker asks "Is it 2012 yet?" A sticker for McCain. A sticker for Ehrlich. All losers. But biggest loser of all is the man driving the truck--Andy Harris. And his license tag registration was expired. State Police please take notice.

2. A big SUV with a giant image of an eagle with the stars and stripes. A bumper sticker proclaims something such as "I'll keep my freedom, my faith, my money, my gun.

The Turning of the Tide...

The opening night of the Heartland International Conference on Climate Change was inspiring, if for only one reason: the tide is turning against global warming alarmism. Public opinion is shifting and not only Americans, but others around the world are coming to realize what noted skeptic, MIT Professor of Meteorology Richard Lindzen said in his keynote address, “We are right, and they are wrong!”

Lindzen’s remarks reminded me of Reagan’s quip to Richard Allen about Cold War policy towards the Soviets, “We win, they lose.”

The other keynote speaker Vaclav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic summed up global warming alarmism in three words “it’s an ideology.

Stupid, Green, and Growing...Your Cost of Living

The Greenhouse Gas Reduction Act passed the Senate last week by a 36-9 vote. To refresh: the bill—introduced by the O’Malley administration—aims to reduce GHG emissions 25% below 2006 levels by 2020. The administration and its environmental allies claim the reductions will stem the tide of global warming, all while providing net economic growth and more jobs. This is part of O’Malley’s “Smart, Green and Growing” initiative. Four Republicans inexplicably voted for this monstrosity (David Brinkley, Barry Glassman, Andy Harris, and EJ Pipkin). The house version of the bill, now awaits a vote in the Economic Matters Committee, where it died last year.

Letdown

As the Senate GOP Caucus notes, we had a chance to shut down debate on the Death Penalty today:
After about an hour of tumoil on the Senate floor, Senator EJ Pipkin (R - Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne's & Caroline) move to recommit the bill back to the Judicial Proceedings Committee. The motion to recommit failed on a tie vote of 23 to 23.
So why did it fail by one vote. Simple. Take a look at the vote totals:

Jennings predicts Harris-Kratovil rematch, eyes state Senate

Del. J.B. Jennings (R-Harford County) said Tuesday, that if state Sen. Andy Harris (R-Cockeysville) makes another bid for higher office, then he will immediately throw his name into the ring to replace Harris in the 7th District state Senate seat.

Harris was defeated by U.S. Rep.-elect Frank Kratovil (D-Stevensville) in November in the 1st Congressional District by less than 3,000 votes and has left the door for his 2010 ambitions wide open. Jennings said a rematch between Harris and Kratovil is likely.

State GOP finds its soul, but message still in development

ANNAPOLIS -- The Maryland Republican Party may have found its soul at this weekend's state GOP Fall 2008 Convention, but the state's beleaguered minority party seemed to have trouble laying out a detailed communications strategy.

State GOPers made one thing clear during their weekend summit: The party lost its way, ditched its own values and ultimately lost an election.

Republicans seemed to agree that getting back to basics, whether it be on strategy or ideology, was what needed to occur.
