County Executive Race--Already? Conti Counting Down For County

Joanna Conti, a Delaware native and Broadneck businesswoman has taken the first step toward running for Anne Arundel County Executive in 2010 by forming an Exploratory Committee. Yep. And we have not even elected our mayor yet! I say, yeah baby--bring it on....!!!! Conti is a Democrat, although I had to look hard in her web-site to learn that buried tidbit, even though it was pretty much a given

Cohen Has Meeting....Yawn

The Cohen campaign just sent out a news release:

Cohen Meets With Ulman to Discuss Making Government More Efficient and Effective
The two leaders pledge to continue working together.

Columbia, MD -- Anne Arundel County Councilman Josh Cohen, Candidate for Mayor of Annapolis, met for two hours yesterday afternoon with Howard County Executive Ken Ulman and several senior staff members. Cohen had requested the meeting to learn about Ulman's initiatives to improve government performance and reduce costs. The two also discussed transportation challenges in the Annapolis area. Ulman is a member of the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board and pledged to examine ways to improve regional transportation coordination for the greater Annapolis area.

The West Annapolis Civic Association has joined with the Wardour Improvement Association and the Admiral Heights Improvement Association to schedule a mayoral candidates forum from 7:00-9:00 pm Thursday, August 27th, in the gymnasium of the West Annapolis Elementary School.They would like to pre-submit a number of talking points to the candidates in advance of the event. ACLU SUES HACA AND POLICE DEP'T.

We can only hope some good comes out of this, but I am not so sure. The ACLU had threatened this some time back and now it seems it is happening. I think that in general the ability of police and HACA to ban certain people from public housing is desirable and permissible, but it has to be done in a fair and proper fashion. However, if you become a ward of the state essentially by being a public housing resident, you had better play by those rules. Although a person's home is not exactly their castle, a person's public housing apartment should not be a prison either.
