Budget Cuts Threaten Police, Fire Crews; Prince George's Co. Could Cut 320 Jobs.

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. - The financial crisis could hit emergency services in Prince George's County hard.

FOX 5 has learned Prince George's County is considering cutting 320 jobs. However, a whopping 71 percent of the latest cuts come from public safety.

It's not final yet, but with only 10 days to go before a final budget is submitted by county executive Jack Johnson, the layoffs are looking more likely.

Jack Johnson for Governor?

Is the PG County Executive going run?  Can he actually beat incumbent Democrat Gov. Martin O'Malley in a primary?  Do I really care?

The answers are simple:  Don't know, NO, and a BIG NO.

The only reason I brought the subject up was because I appreciate the plug given to my Red Maryland and SbyNEWS colleague Kenny Burns by the Baltimore Sun's Andy Green.

As first hinted last month right here on Maryland Politics Today, Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson (D) is considering a run for statewide office.
We now learn from The Gazette that he is considering a challenge to Governor Martin O’Malley in the 2010 Democratic Primary.

Prince George’s County: Look No More

Prince George’s County announced that the federal oversight of it’s police department is no longer.  County Executive Jack Johnson (D) and Acting Police Chief Roberto Hylton says that the department has met all of the requirements from a 2004 memo of understanding between the Justice Department and the department.
