State GOP blasts Dems over Baltimore pay increases

The Maryland Republican Party pounced on Baltimore Democrats Wednesday, after The Baltimore Sun reported numerous city officials received pay increases totaling $26,250.

"Once again, this is an example of Maryland Democrat leaders operating under a different set of rules than the rest of us," state GOP Chair Jim Pelura said in a statement.

State GOP finds its soul, but message still in development

ANNAPOLIS -- The Maryland Republican Party may have found its soul at this weekend's state GOP Fall 2008 Convention, but the state's beleaguered minority party seemed to have trouble laying out a detailed communications strategy.

Terhes: Selling out lost GOP the election

ANNAPOLIS -- Maryland Republican Party National Committeewoman Joyce Terhes said Saturday that the devastating blow her party took in November was a result of many Republicans selling out their values.

"We as Republicans love to quote Ronald Reagan," Terhes told a room full of state party officials at this weekend's Maryland GOP Fall 2008 Convention. "But many of today's Republicans don't have the courage to act like Ronald Reagan."

Amid speculation, Pelura's future not on the convention agenda

ANNAPOLIS -- Jim Pelura's future as chair of the Maryland Republican Party may still be in jeopardy after at this weekend's state GOP Fall 2008 Convention, but Pelura was not met with any public opposition and the conversation focused on the party's future as a whole.

Speculation continued on Friday that state Sens. Alex Mooney and Andy Harris were looking to oust Pelura, after Harris lost a hard-fought race for the 1st Congressional District seat against Democrat Frank Kratovil by only a few thousand votes. The district was considered a Republican stronghold by most.

Furloughs would affect O'Malley as well

If Gov. Martin O'Malley's (D-Baltimore) furlough proposal gets implemented, the governor himself will be a participant.

"Regardless, he will be taking those five days in unpaid leave," O'Malley deputy press secretary Shaun Adamec told PolitickerMD.com. Adamec predicted the governor would continue working despite an unpaid leave, but wasn't certain about O'Malley's plans. Adamec added that the talks about furloughs were still ongoing and that nothing was official.
