MACo: Vote 'yes' on Question 2

The board members of the Maryland Association of Counties are urging voters to vote "Yes" on November's slots referendum.

"Taxpayers need to know that without the new revenue from slots, the only other options will be severe service reductions or additional taxes," Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith (D), MACo's president, said in a statement. "Slots aren't the silver bullet to the state structural deficit, but they are an important element in the solution."

Slots get support from EAB and SLEOLA

The Baltimore County Executive's Regional Advisory Board for Business and Education voted to support November's slots referendum on Friday. The EAB -- a forum to the regional economy -- is made up of representatives from business, government and education.

"I have been working hard to ensure the passage of the slots referendum this November," said county executive Jim Smith (D-Baltimore County) in a statement.

O’Malley speaks for Smith: ‘I know in my heart that we will elect a Democratic president’

DENVER – Gov. Martin O’Malley (D-Baltimore) told Maryland delegates Tuesday morning that “Jim is doing well and he brings you his best regards.”

O’Malley was referring to Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith, who was supposed to host Tuesday’s breakfast for the Maryland delegation at the Renaissance Denver hotel. Smith was unable to travel to Denver because of the triple-bypass open heart surgery he underwent two weeks ago. The surgery was successful, but Smith is still in recovery.
