Maryland supporters react to John Edwards' withdrawal

This morning, aides to the senator announced that he would withdraw at 1 p.m. in New Orleans — at the site where he began his campaign in December 2006.

Younger Glendening will likely stay behind the scenes

Glendening had served as deputy national field director on Bill Richardson’s presidential campaign until the New Mexico governor ended his campaign after a disappointing finish in the New Hampshire primary on Jan. 8.

Glendening won't endorse before Feb. 12 primary, but pushes Richardson for VP

Former Governor Parris Glendening, who had been supporting Bill Richardson for President, says he won’t endorse any of the remaining contenders before the February 12 Maryland primary.   

“I like them all,” Glendening said of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards.  “I will leave my political efforts and energy to the general election.”

Wynn endorses Obama

This evening, Rep. Al Wynn announced his endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama for President of the United States.

"Barack Obama brings a positive energy, a new vision and has the political courage to bring about the change this country so desperately needs on the Presidential level," he said.

Wynn, a Democrat, faces his own tough primary battle with community activist Donna Edwards for his Fourth District seat on Feb. 12, the same day Maryland's presidential primary is taking place.

Marylanders head to New Hampshire for Edwards

A volunteer force of roughly 30 Maryland residents will roam the frigid grounds of New Hampshire this weekend in support of the presidential campaign of former Sen. John Edwards, according to Sushant Sidh, the state director of Maryland for Edwards.

Edwards finished second to Barack Obama in the Iowa caucus, held last night. His campaign will now move to New Hampshire, where the primary is scheduled for Tuesday. Obama secured victory in Iowa with 38 percent of the vote, compared to 30 and 29 percent for Edwards and Hillary Clinton, respectively.

For political enthusiasts, the great celebration marked the beginning of an exciting election year. Edwards underfiles 2008 convention delegates

Edwards will have 30 candidates stand for 54 slots available in the February 12 primary.
