Kennedy Townsend stumps in Indiana

Sen. Hillary Clinton is playing the nostalgia card in Indiana, but in a different way than usual, as former Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend is taking a prominent role in her presidential campaign. Today, she’ll join the Senator and former President Bill Clinton at four stops across the Hoosier State.

The 1968 Indiana Democratic primary was the first contest her father, Sen. Robert Kennedy, took part in, where he unexpectedly defeated favorite son Gov. Roger Branigin and Minnesota Sen. Eugene McCarthy.

As a young woman, Bhutto related with Kennedy Townsend

Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan's former prime minister assasinated by a murderous suicide attacker this morning, held tangential ties to a politically prominent woman here in Maryland: former Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend.

Kennedy Townsend and Bhutto were both contemporaries at Harvard University in the early 1970s, and both the daughters of great political fortune and tragedy.

In a 1998 Crimson article, Bhutto described how she later came to identify with Kennedy Townsend when her own father was executed in 1979.

Brown confident in Clinton victory

The lieutenant governor has been to Iowa three times on the senator’s behalf, including a recent visit to the Hawkeye State, where Brown met with a group of veterans.
