Refuge Podcast # 67 - Where the Money Went, Now we Know

The original podcast covering conservative, Republican politics in Maryland is back with a hard-hitting report follow-up report on the Citizens for Better Government detailing where the money went. You can listen to this controversial report by clicking here:

Following the reporting of Red Maryland contributor Brian Gill and myself exposing the false and misleading claims and public statements of the Citizens for Better Government, the group insisted that it had met all of its fundraising goals and that it was leading "the beginning of the reemergence of the Maryland Republican Party".

I predicted that these statements would also be proven false when the group issued its 2009 campaign finance report.

Is There a Republican Position on Jack Johnson's Latest Plea for Higher Taxes?

Prince George's County Executive Jack Johnson, frustrated because the county charter will not permit him to raise taxes willy-nilly, has appealed to the county's all Tax and Spend Democratic delegation to set aside the will of the voters and impose a county tax increase from Annapolis.&charset;&style;&publisher;

The news media covering Prince George's County almost never report any Republican position on Johnson's never-ending quest for higher taxes.
Are there any Maryland Republican Party officers or spokespersons who have made a public statement about Johnson's latest request?  Or who are willing to make a public statement that I could try to disseminate to PG-Politics and other PG County blogs and mailing lists?

The state of Maryland

As he is bound to do, Governor O'Malley delivered the State of the State Address earlier this week. While the state has challenges, Martin was optimistic for our future because a new Sheriff was in town a few miles down the road in Washington, D.C.

But I think the state of the state is much more accurately assessed in the rebuttal, presented by Delegate Anthony O'Donnell - who happens to be my 2008 Legislator of the Year based on his monoblogue Accountability Project score. If you go to the Maryland Public Television site, you'll see and hear both speeches.

It's also worthwhile to see the response from the Maryland Republican Party:

State GOP blasts Dems over Baltimore pay increases

The Maryland Republican Party pounced on Baltimore Democrats Wednesday, after The Baltimore Sun reported numerous city officials received pay increases totaling $26,250.

"Once again, this is an example of Maryland Democrat leaders operating under a different set of rules than the rest of us," state GOP Chair Jim Pelura said in a statement.

State GOP finds its soul, but message still in development

ANNAPOLIS -- The Maryland Republican Party may have found its soul at this weekend's state GOP Fall 2008 Convention, but the state's beleaguered minority party seemed to have trouble laying out a detailed communications strategy.

State GOPers made one thing clear during their weekend summit: The party lost its way, ditched its own values and ultimately lost an election.

Republicans seemed to agree that getting back to basics, whether it be on strategy or ideology, was what needed to occur.
