Auto industry bailout: How Maryland's delegation voted

The U.S. House of Congress voted Wednesday night to send $14 billion in emergency loans to Detroit automakers.

The Auto Industry Financing and Restructuring Act passed the House 237 to 170. The Maryland delegation voted 6 to 1 in favor of the bill with outgoing U.S. Rep. Wayne Gilchrest (R-Kennedyville) abstaining from the vote. The bailout measure is backed by the White House, but Senate Republicans have shown little support for the bill and are suggesting alternate solutions.

Edwards raises $59K in 3Q, $47K cash on hand

U.S. Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Fort Washington), who currently holds Maryland's 4th Congressional District seat, is reporting $58,754.64 in total contributions in the third fundraising quarter and has $47,423.69 cash on hand, according to documents filed with the Federal Election Commission.

Edwards, who won the seat in a June special election, is currently being challenged by Republican Peter James.

State GOP: Dump Edwards, Van Hollen after no-shows

Voters should "dump" Congressional Democrats who don't show up to debates, according to the Maryland Republican Party.

The GOP has taken U.S. Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Fort Washington) and U.S. Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Kensington) to task for failing to debate their Republican opponents.

Ron Paul endorses five GOP candidates

Ron Paul (R-Texas) dropped into Maryland Thursday to show his support for five of Maryland's Republican Congressional candidates. The event -- designed to raise cash for the candidates' campaigns -- was held at the Comcast Center at the University of Maryland in College Park.

Paul, who made an unsuccessful bid for president in 2008, says a lot of enthusiasm resulted from the campaign.

Ron Paul to visit Free State

Ron Paul (R-Texas) will publicly endorse Maryland's Republican candidates for U.S. House at a fundraiser on Thursday.

Each candidate has been invited to speak at the rally. Richard Matthews (MD-2), Peter James (MD-4), Collins Bailey (MD-5) and Mike Hargadon (MD-7) have all confirmed.

Admission to the fundraiser, which is sponsored by Maryland Students for Liberty and Liberty PAC, will cost $25 and will start at 7:30pm. An earlier VIP event will be priced at $150. The event will be held at the Comcast Center at the University of Maryland in College Park

MD delegation 7-1 on revised bailout legislation

The Maryland Congressional delegation voted 7 to 1 on Friday in favor of a revised economic recovery bill.

The U.S. Senate added provisions and voted on an updated rescue bill Wednesday, after the U.S. House failed to pass a $700 billion bailout package for the financial sector on Monday.

Congress passed the revised bill on Friday 263 to 171.

Prince George's GOP lacks a ‘farm team'

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Succeeding in this election cycle will be an uphill battle for Republicans in Prince George's County, according to Mykel Harris, chair of the Prince George's County Republican Central Committee.

"It's a tough year for Republicans - even tougher in Prince George's County," Harris told PolitickerMD.com. "In the past I would have to say it hasn't been competitive. We're outnumbered 6 to 1. That is the biggest challenge and as a result we don't really have a farm team."

Edwards talks about Hoyer and FISA

Yesterday, U.S. Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Fort Washington) discussed her vote against the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and how she broke the news to House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Mechanicsville).

In the video, Edwards talks about the importance of having members who will stand up against their own leadership. She recounted the story of approaching Hoyer on the House floor and how she sternly told him, "Steny, I will not vote for that FISA bill."

Edwards continues staffing process, details remain vague

LARGO - U.S. Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Fort Washington) is continuing the process of hiring staff. Maryland’s newest U.S. Representative told PolitickerMD.com, “We’re in the process of interviewing for our senior staff, legislative director, chief of staff and district manager.” 

 “And then we’re going to have a really terrific team management concept,” she added. “We’re going to proceed to open up district offices,” throughout MD-4.
