On A Slow Boat to China…

From Red Maryland
I highly recommend Jonah Goldberg’s excellent destruction of Thomas Friedman’s latest New York Times column wherein Friedman writes this gem:
Watching both the health care and climate/energy debates in Congress, it is hard not to draw the following conclusion: There is only one thing worse than one-party autocracy, and that is one-party democracy, which [...]

The anti-Pelura push, continued

From Red Maryland
Editor’s note: This is “continued” in spite of the fact I hadn’t put the original on Red Maryland.
My plan today was to dissect Frank Kratovil’s recent response to me on his “cap and tax” vote in Congress a couple weeks back, but instead I bring you this.
At the moment, Jim Pelura remains as [...]

Leading Maryland Blog Reviewer States CP's "numbers should stay strong."

An interesting post by the blog Maryland-Politics (Adam Pagnucco) looks at trends in Maryland political blogging and notes how Capital Punishment is becoming more and more popular. At the same time, conservative blogs are declining. CP is profiled as follows:

"From our dataset on 38 statistics-releasing Maryland blogs, here are three that are on the way up as well as a category of them that is stalled....Not so long ago, Paul Foer was known as 'PMF' on the liberal blog Free State Politics, where he was a frequent target of Red Maryland’s conservatives. Well, Foer is getting the last laugh. His Annapolis Capital Punishment blog, which follows Annapolis city politics in minute detail, beat the statewide Red Maryland in site visits for the first time in May.

I don’t understand.

From Red Maryland
I just don’t understand our Republican leadership.
The July 9 Prince George’s Gazette has a number of articles on the following subjects:
* Commercial robberies are up in the county.
* Public safety staffing has been cut.
* Unions are suing the county over the [...]

The Sun likes Obama’s Coporatism, Just Don’t Point it Out

From Red Maryland
There has been an interesting convergence of what appeared to be separate arguments and issues involving the Sun editorial page and Second Opinion blog.
Sunday, in the Second Opinion blog, editorial page editor Michael Cross-Barnett invoked Godwins Law on Anne Arundel County Republican Women’s President Joyce E. Thomann for her crude “blitzkrieg” comparison of [...]

Frank Kratovil and GOP Cap and Trade 8

From Red Maryland
Waxman-Markey/cap and trade (to call it by its real name is an affront to the English language) passed the House last night 219-212. Frank Kratovil—who as of Friday afternoon had not read the bill—along with Steny Hoyer, Chris Van Hollen, Dutch Ruppersberger all voted aye, leaving Roscoe Bartlett the only Maryland representative voting [...]

Glenn Greenwald Doth Protest Too Much, Way Too Much

From Red Maryland
I usually leave the larger issues of media criticism to Professor Vatz, as his mustache can slay a rabid grizzly bear, or at least a Baltimore Sun editorial page editor. However I felt the need to jump in on one issue in particular.
My friend Ron Smith is an admirer of Salon blogger Glenn [...]

Pending Catastrophe: The Incipient Failure of the Barack Obama Anti-Nuclear Proliferation Policy

From Red Maryland
“The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish…all forms of human life.” John F. Kennedy Inaugural, 1961
This was not the only time the first American president of 1960’s warned of the danger of nuclear weapons, and he exaggerated, thank God, the speed of nuclear [...]

Fool me once, shame on you….

From Red Maryland
….but apparently, you can get fooled again:
Gov. Martin O’Malley plans to introduce emergency legislation Wednesday that would give the state authority to acquire Maryland’s bankrupt horse racing tracks and the Preakness through eminent domain, officials confirmed.

However, legal experts say the bankruptcy filing by the tracks’ [...]

GOP Steele detractors in a bind

Red Maryland has an interesting post up from a Michael Steele detractor who, nonethless, thinks the party shouldn't dump him. The post outlines a laundry list of questionable things Steele has said or done but concludes that the thing for...
