Jennings predicts Harris-Kratovil rematch, eyes state Senate

Del. J.B. Jennings (R-Harford County) said Tuesday, that if state Sen. Andy Harris (R-Cockeysville) makes another bid for higher office, then he will immediately throw his name into the ring to replace Harris in the 7th District state Senate seat.

Harris was defeated by U.S. Rep.-elect Frank Kratovil (D-Stevensville) in November in the 1st Congressional District by less than 3,000 votes and has left the door for his 2010 ambitions wide open. Jennings said a rematch between Harris and Kratovil is likely.

Amid speculation, Pelura's future not on the convention agenda

ANNAPOLIS -- Jim Pelura's future as chair of the Maryland Republican Party may still be in jeopardy after at this weekend's state GOP Fall 2008 Convention, but Pelura was not met with any public opposition and the conversation focused on the party's future as a whole.

Speculation continued on Friday that state Sens. Alex Mooney and Andy Harris were looking to oust Pelura, after Harris lost a hard-fought race for the 1st Congressional District seat against Democrat Frank Kratovil by only a few thousand votes. The district was considered a Republican stronghold by most.

Geppi: Nov. 10 meeting moved to put focus on MD-1

BALTIMORE -- A Nov. 10 meeting to nominate state Sen. Andy Harris's successor, should Harris be elected to Congress, was moved to put more focus on getting Harris elected in the first place and not because of committee bylaws, according to Mike Geppi, chair of the Harford County Republican Central Committee.

If Harris (R-Cockeysville) defeats state's Attorney Frank Kratovil (D-Stevensville) to win the 1st Congressional District seat, the Harford and Baltimore County Republican Central Committees will be required to elect a successor.
