Van Hollen raised $399K in 3Q, $2.7M cash on hand

U.S. Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Kensington), who represents Maryland's 8th Congressional District, reported $398,916.18 in total contributions in the third fundraising quarter and has $2,724,622.47 cash on hand, according to documents filed with the Federal Election Commission.

His opponent, Republican Steve Hudson, has not filed his 3rd quarter earnings yet.

Van Hollen also chairs the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

State GOP: Dump Edwards, Van Hollen after no-shows

Voters should "dump" Congressional Democrats who don't show up to debates, according to the Maryland Republican Party.

The GOP has taken U.S. Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Fort Washington) and U.S. Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Kensington) to task for failing to debate their Republican opponents.

Ron Paul endorses five GOP candidates

Ron Paul (R-Texas) dropped into Maryland Thursday to show his support for five of Maryland's Republican Congressional candidates. The event -- designed to raise cash for the candidates' campaigns -- was held at the Comcast Center at the University of Maryland in College Park.

Paul, who made an unsuccessful bid for president in 2008, says a lot of enthusiasm resulted from the campaign.

Hudson endorsed by Vets for Freedom

Vets for Freedom PAC endorsed Republican Steve Hudson on Wednesday.

"As a proud Army veteran of Iraq, I am humbled to speak on behalf of over 27,000 members of Vets for Freedom in offering our strong endorsement of Steve Hudson for United States Congress," said the group's chair, Pete Hegseth in a statement.  "He has been a steadfast source of support of all the men and women who are winning the Global War on Terror. Our country needs more people like Steve in Washington."

Hudson accepted the endorsement and touted his military credentials.

Hudson: 'I think I can win'

BROOKEVILLE - Republican Steve Hudson thinks he can unseat Chris Van Hollen in November, but former Gov. Bob Ehrlich (R-Baltimore) predicts it may take Hudson a few more cycles to become a more formidable opponent.

Ehrlich praised Hudson and called him a serious candidate, but said he suffers from a lack of name recognition.

Van Hollen leaves Hudson debate invitation open

Republican Steve Hudson wants to debate his opponent in the eighth district congressional race, but that won't happen anytime soon.  U.S. Rep. Christopher Van Hollen (D-Kensington) says he's busy being a Congressman, but said he might consider debating in the fall.

"Right now I'm very focused on my duties in Congress. We've got a lot of legislation to pass," Van Hollen told PolitickerMD.com while attending a Democratic fundraiser in Baltimore last night. "At some point in the fall we may be able to do something like that."

Hudson receives $9.5K in 2Q, $3.5K cash on hand

Republican Steve Hudson, who is running for Congress in Maryland’s 8th Congressional District, reported $9,484 contributions in the second quarter and $3,500.02 cash on hand according to Federal Elections Commission reports.

Hudson has received $21,275.97 in contributions to date for this election.

FEC reports Hudson has 3.5K cash on hand
