Delahunt reports $1.4M in cash on hand but loses money for the quarter

Tenth district U.S. Rep. Bill Delahunt (D-Quincy) reported having less in his campaign war chest than when the second fundraising quarter began, according to the Federal Election Commission.

[img_assist|nid=151|title=U.S. Rep. Bill Delahunt (D-Quincy)|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=180|height=178]Like fellow Rep. James McGovern (D-Worcester), Delahunt gave large sums of money to other Democratic candidates for Congress while raising a miniscule $1,908 for the quarter and just $83,108 so far this cycle.

Nevertheless, Delahunt reported $1,456,937.91 cash on hand. He began the quarter with $1,588,046.06 in his bank account.

Delahunt also finished the second quarter with less money in his war chest than he started it with in the 2006 cycle. He started that quarter with $1,949,434.31 cash on hand and ended it with $1,853,996.34.

Delahunt, the chairman of the House Subcommittee on International Organizations, Human Rights and Oversight, is running unopposed this year and decided to contribute a significant portion of this war chest to other Democratic candidates running for Congress. He gave $1000 contributions to congressional candidates Andre Carson (Ind.), Don Cazayoux (La.), Donna Edwards (Md.), Scott Harper (Ill.), Jill Morgenthaler (Ill.) and Ron Klein (Fla.). Additionally, he made $2000 contributions to the campaigns of Reps. Carol Shea-Porter (D-N.H.), Steve Kagen (D-Wisc.), Jerry McNerney's (D-Calif.) and Paul Hodes (D-N.H.) and Raul Martinez's campaign for Congress in Florida's 21st district.

Delahunt also gave $1000 to Rep. Robert Andrews failed Senate bid and two contributions of $2,000 each to Joe Garcia's Florida campaign against Republican Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart. Fellow Massachusetts Reps. McGovern and Richard Neal (D-Springfield) also contributed to Garcia's campaign.

Interestingly, Delahunt also made two contributions of $2,000 each to Rep. John Tierney's (D-Salem) campaign committee.
