Deval Patrick (D-Milton) is expected to attend presumptive presidential Democratic nominee Barack Obama (Ill.) fundraiser in Boston Monday evening.

A source familiar with the governor's schedule told PolitickerMA.com that while the governor's office does not customarily put fundraisers on the schedule, Patrick is expected to join Obama at the State Room this evening.

Patrick was an early supporter of Obama's candidacy, endorsing the U.S. senator from Illinois in mid-October. The two politicians are longtime friends and share several similarities, including their roots in Chicago, a Harvard Law School degree and the same political strategist, David Axelrod. Those similarities have led many to speculate that Obama would tap Patrick for one of a host of different positions from attorney general to Supreme Court justice should he win in November. Patrick, however, has remained steadfast that he plans to run for re-election for governor in 2010.
