Hecht readies for primary

Jonathan Hecht spent the weekend traversing Middlesex County's 29th District, making his final push before Tuesday's state House primary.

[img_assist|nid=160|title=Jonathan Hecht|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=107|height=180]"We're just working flat out from now until Tuesday night at eight," Hecht told PolitickerMA.com.

Hecht is vying for the Democratic nomination in the race to replace state Rep. Rachel Kaprielian. He'll face several challengers, including fellow Watertown Councilor Stephen Corbett  and labor lawyer Julia Fahey, in a primary that will be decided entirely on sticker and write-in ballots.

Hecht spent the weekend at making various campaign stops throughout the district. Friday night he attended an event at St. James Church in Watertown. On Saturday he attended a block party in Watertown and on Sunday he made a stop at a block party in Cambridge. He also stopped in at grocery stores and coffee shops last weekend, including Formaggio Kitchen in Cambridge.

Between those events, Hecht said he continued to knock on doors and "make phone calls to the people whose doors I haven't been able to get to."

On Tuesday, Hecht will have campaign members "at every polling place" distributing stickers and instructions on how to use them. His campaign, he said, has already mailed stickers to everyone in the district.

"We're going to be pushing on all fronts," he told PolitickerMA.com, "door knocking, some additional literature drops, a sign holdings tonight and tomorrow and follow up phone calling."

"It's a tight race," Corbett added.

Fahey did not respond to an interview request.

Hecht said he believes his campaign's hard work will pay off Tuesday.

"I feel good," he said. "We've got a great organization. We have a lot of people working very, very hard."
