BOSTON-State Sen. Dianne Wilkerson said Tuesday night that she will seek re-election as a write-in candidate in November's general election if her the recount fails to change the result of last week's primary.

"If it not successful," Wilkerson said referring to the recount, "I am prepared to run as a Democrat in a sticker write in campaign on the ballot in November."

Wilkerson, a 15-year incumbent, lost last Tuesday's Democratic primary to challenger Sonia Chang-Diaz by 228 votes. On Monday she sought to have five wards recounted. Boston election officials only certified the requisite number of signatures for three wards, while not certifying two, according to the State House News Service. Chang-Diaz also submitted a petition for a recount of one ward. Those signatures were certified by Boston election officials.

Wilkerson addressed a roomful of supporters wearing red "Dianne Delivers" stickers at the Prince Hall in Dorchester.

"I'm ready," Wilkerson said to cheers from the crowd. "We can do this."
