Question 1 opponents launch web tool

Opponents of the ballot question that would eliminate the state income tax launched a website simulation Tuesday that allows viewers to see how much state funding their local community would lose if the measure succeeds, according to a spokesman for the Coalition for Our Communities campaign.

The tool appears on the campaign's website, www.VoteNoQuestion1.com. It allows the user to scroll over a map Massachusetts and displays how much money would be cut from every city or town, based on state allotments in the 2009 fiscal year budget.

The website states that the total loss of state revenue could be as high as $14.6 billion, if the measure were to succeed in November.

Steve Crawford, a spokesman for the campaign, said the tool provides something that the supporters of the measure have yet to provide.

"Fact-based analysis of the impact Question 1 will have," Crawford said, "something that is sorely lacking from the other side."
