Globe: Lynch, Tierney and Delahunt still oppose bailout plan

The three members of the Bay State's congressional delegation that voted against the $700 billion Wall Street bailout plan in the U.S. House of Representatives on Monday are still opposed to the Senate version of the bill that passed by a large margin Wednesday, the Boston Globe reports.

U.S. Reps. Stephen Lynch (D-Boston), Bill Delahunt (D-Quincy) and John Tierney (D-Salem) voted against the measure Monday.

"Of the three House members from Massachusetts who opposed the bill on Monday," the Globe reports, "none pledged to support the new measure."

The Senate bill, which passed by a vote of 74 to 25 and was backed by U.S. Sen. John Kerry, included several add-ons to the House bill. Most notably, it called for federally insuring bank deposits up to $250,000 for a year. Previously, the government only insured deposits up to $100,000.

Lynch told the Globe he supported that aspect of the bill but still wasn't on board with the entire package.

"If we're going to debate those issues, let's debate them, but don't just hang them on like it's some kind of Christmas tree," the Democrat said. "We've got a crisis on our hands. Let's get our economy stabilized, and we've got plenty of time for this other stuff."
