Romney in Nevada for McCain campaign tonight
By Jeremy P. Jacobs, PolitickerMA.com ReporterMitt Romney, a frequent surrogate for John McCain’s presidential campaign, will be in Elko, Nev., Thursday night leading a pre-debate rally for the McCain campaign, according to a spokesman for the former governor.
Asked of Romney would be in the spin room tonight following the vice presidential debate between Republican Sarah Palin and Democrat Joe Biden, Eric Fehrnstrom, a spokesman for Romney, said the McCain campaign asked the Belmont Republican to lead the rally in Elko so that is where he will be.
Nevada is considered to be a pivotal battle ground in this year’s presidential election. It is currently ranked the sixth most competitive swing state in the presidential election by the Pindell Report.
Romney is considered a valuable surrogate in Nevada because of its proximity to Utah and its large population of Mormons. Romney has campaigned on behalf McCain already this election cycle, headlining a fundraiser and rally there in late August.
Interestingly, McCain was scheduled to campaign in Reno, Nev., Thursday but cancelled his trip, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal.
