Ross to stay out of Wilkerson/Chang-Diaz race

Boston City Councilor Michael Ross said Tuesday that he will not endorse state Sen. Dianne Wilkerson or Sonia Chang-Diaz in their general election match up.

Ross backed Wilkerson in her primary this year against Chang-Diaz.

"I'm just going to stay out of it out of respect for my relationship with Sen. Wilkerson," Ross told PolitickerMA.com. "I look forward to working with whoever the winner is in November."

Ross, a Mission Hill Democrat, said he couldn't work against his party's nominee.

"I'm not going to support Dianne against the established Democratic candidate," he said.

With his remarks, Ross became the third Boston City Councilor who backed Wilkerson in the primary that is remaining uncommitted in the general election, according to PolitickerMA.com's tally. Councilors Sam Yoon, a Dorchester Democrat, and Stephen Murphy, a Hyde Park Democrat, are also uncommitted in the race while Charles Yancey (D-Dorchester) and Chuck Turner (Green Rainbow Party-Roxbury) are sticking with Wilkerson.

City Councilor John Tobin (D-West Roxbury) is backing Chang-Diaz in the general election but did not endorse either candidate in the primary.
