Turner sticking with Wilkerson

Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner is sticking by state Sen. Dianne Wilkerson, Boston Daily reports.

Turner, a Roxbury member of the Green-Rainbow Party, backed Wilkerson in her Democratic primary against Sonia Chang-Diaz this year and also endorsed her in the general election.

Turner told Boston Daily that he will continue supporting Wilkerson as long as she continues her campaign.

"If she calls off her campaign, then the race is over," Turner said. "If she doesn't, my perspective is that she'll be judged by a jury of her peers."

Turner urged the media and others not to be quick to judge Wilkerson and criticized those that are quick to draw conclusions based on the FBI photos already released. "That kind of speculative probing is one of the most unseemly parts of our country," he said. "Especially in a nation that calls itself Christian. Well, Jesus said, ‘Judge not lest ye be judged.' I think it's time for the media and everyone else to follow the advice of the founder of Christianity. Let a jury of peers take responsibility for judging it. Meanwhile, let's keep our mouths shut and let that process continue."

The councilor also said he would not endorse Chang-Diaz because, "she's not part of our district," referring to Chang-Diaz living in a predominantly Caucasian part of Suffolk's 2nd District.

"She doesn't come to meetings," he said. "She lives in another community. It's like you have someone coming from another city coming in and representing people in another city."
