Conroy: People responded to our positive campaign

State Rep. Tom Conroy said Tuesday night that voters in Middlesex's 13th District responded to his positive campaign in his race against former state Rep. Susan Pope.

With all precincts in the district reporting, Conroy beat Pope, who he also defeated in 2006, 59 percent to 41 percent.

"It's resounding victory," Conroy told PolitickerMA.com. "It's a real testament to running a positive campaign and working hard. The results speak to that kind of an effort and the character of the volunteers that helped bring this victory to fruition."

Conroy said he believes voters respond to three traits in particular: Experience, accomplishment and character. And voters, Conroy said, preferred him on each.

"We had a very good record to run on," he said. "She ran a negative campaign and I ran a strictly positive campaign and I think people appreciated that. They saw that I was maintaining my integrity and people respect that."
