Hayes: Loss symptomatic of anti-Republican undercurrent

Republican Kurt Hayes, who is projected to lose the race for Middlesex's 37th House District to Lunenburg Democrat Jen Benson, said Tuesday night he was proud of his campaign but it was hard for any Republican to win this year.

Hayes, of Boxborough, was seeking to fill the seat vacated by state Rep. Jamie Eldridge, who ran for the state Senate this year.

"I think the race we ran was strong," Hayes told PolitickerMA.com. "I think this is more of a symptom of the undercurrent against for Republicans in all of the races around here."

"We didn't win any of the races that I know of," he said.
