Gregoire: Hard work paid off

Marlborough Democrat Danielle Gregoire said Wednesday morning that voters in Middlesex's 4th District became convinced she was ready to represent them when they saw how hard she worked during her campaign.

Gregoire, who is 29 years old, told PolitickerMA.com that Marlborough Republican Arthur Vigeant called her last night to concede the race. With all precincts reporting, Gregoire bested Vigeant 48 percent to 44 percent, according to the Boston Globe.

Asked how she proved to voters that she was ready to serve in the state House, Gregoire said she just focused on showing voters her determination.

"Part of my making my case was just working hard on the campaign trail," she said. "I've been knocking on doors since April. I've been at everything; I tried to listen to everybody; I encouraged everyone to please get in touch with me. Part of it was about me showing them how hard I wanted to work."

Gregoire said she knew Bay State Republicans were targeting the seat, which was vacated by Democratic state Rep. Stephen LeDuc, as a possible pick up and were confident in Vigeant. But, Gregoire added, she was also confident in her campaign.

The Democrat acknowledged that she is "a little exhausted," but said that he is "ready to get to work." She also commended Vigeant for a tough race and for keeping the race positive. Vigeant, in turns out, is Gregoire's second cousin.

"Arthur and I did work very hard and we kept it clean and admirable," she said. "I want to thank him for that."
