Marzilli travelled to Germany for environmental talk in Oct.

State Sen. James Marzilli, who is currently facing multiple counts of harassing women, travelled to Berlin, Germany, at the beginning of October to participate in a forum on environmental issues.

The event was hosted by the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung and the Institute for Ecological Economy Research and was entitled "Greening the Economy." It was held in Berlin on Oct. 8 and 9.

Sources from the foundation and Marzilli's office confirmed his attendance. A spokesman for Marzilli said the senator has attended similar forums in the past and did not represent the Massachusetts state Senate. The spokesman also said Marzilli was not paid for the appearance. The spokesman also said Marzilli committed to attending the forum before his current legal troubles.

Marzilli is charged with assaulting four women in Lowell on June 3. He is also charged with counts of annoying and accosting a member of the opposite sex, attempting to commit assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He pled not guilty to all the charges on July 9.

Marzilli did not seek re-election this year but has not resigned from his seat.
