Manzoli ‘open’ to running for GOP chair

Joe Manzoli, Republican U.S. Senate challenger Jeff Beatty's campaign manager this year, said over the weekend that he is considering running for chairman of the Massachusetts Republican Party.

"I'm open to it," Manzoli told PolitickerMA.com. "I've received probably 15 emails from people asking me to run."

Manzoli said he has not decided whether he will run or not because he just returned from a two-week trip to Italy with his wife.

"It's one of these things where you sit back and think about where you want the party to be," Manzoli said. "I'll have to think about it."

Manzoli had been rumored to be considering a run for the chairmanship since current Chairman Peter Torkildsen announced he is not seeking re-election. GOP State Committeewoman Jennifer Nassour is currently the only candidate that has announced she is running for the post. The state committee will vote on who will be the next chair in January.

Manzoli said he believes a lot has to be done to rebuild the state GOP.

"There's a lot of work to build this party," he said. "Needless to say it hasn't been going in the right direction."

He also said that he was surprised that several Republican candidates lost in this year's election and said the Republican Party needs to rebrand itself.

"We need to get a good message and the Republican Party right now doesn't have a good message," he said. "When they find that message - why you want to be a Republican - things will start to turn around."
