BOSTON - Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner and former state Sen. Dianne Wilkerson plead not guilty on multiple federal felony charges in a brief arraignment on Wednesday.

But while the arraignment lacked any fireworks, Turner's supporters made their presence known at the courthouse and Turner's lawyer, Barry Wilson, hinted at one potential aspect of Turner's defense: Questioning the authenticity of the photo evidence submitted by the FBI.

Turner arrived at the courtroom about 15 minutes before the scheduled hearing with Wilson. About 25 of his supporters filled the courtroom and many others waited outside as he and Wilson sat at the table closest to the judge. Wilkerson entered shortly thereafter, sitting with her lawyer, Max Stern, and a table directly behind Turner's.

Turner pled not guilty to three counts of providing false statements, one count of attempted extortion and one count of conspiracy. Wilkerson, who also appeared in court earlier this week, plead not guilty to the eight counts of attempted extortion she faces, as well as to the conspiracy charge.

Upon leaving the courtroom, Turners supporters chanted "Chuck! Chuck!" and several criticized the charges brought against him. Members of the Green-Rainbow Party, to which Turner belongs, distributed a letter they sent to the United States Inspector General calling for an investigation into "the process by with the Federal Bureau of Investigation decided to initiate a sting operation against" Turner.

Enveloped by reporters outside the courthouse, Wilson raised questions about the photo evidence against Turner.

"You don't know when the photo was taken," he said. Wilson also said it isn't clear who took the photo and exactly what is happening in the photo.

Earlier Wednesday, Turner told the Associated Press that the photos may be doctored.

"I've seen some grainy photographs. I don't know if that's me. They doctor photographs," Turner told the AP, per the Boston Globe. "I know it looks something like me, but the reality is I haven't seen the real photo. There hasn't been an analysis done on the photographs."

Turner also told the AP that he has no intention of resigning.

Wilkerson declined to talk to reporters as she left the the courtroom.
