Forrester mulling run for Turner’s City Council seat

Abrigal Forrester, a Boston human services worker, said Tuesday that he is considering running for the Boston City Council's 7th District seat currently held by embattled councilor Chuck Turner.

"Yes, it is something that's been on my radar screen," Forrester told PolitickerMA.com when asked about next year's City Council elections. "Some individuals have been saying that it is something viable for me to pursue...It is a possibility that I might throw my hat in the race."

Forrester, 38, currently manages workforce development for the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts. In that role, he focuses on ex-offender training and pre-employment training for those that are hard to employ. He is comfortable in that role, he said, having served 10 years in prison for drug trafficking and having gone through the rehabilitation process to join the workforce.

Forrester insisted that he is considering running for the seat whether Turner seeks re-election next year not. Turner, a Roxbury member of the Green-Rainbow Party, is currently facing federal felony charges of conspiracy, accepting a $1,000 bribe and lying to federal officials.Turner has not given any indication that he will not seek re-election.

"None of it is contingent on whether or not he is running," Forrester said of Turner. "What it is contingent upon is whether or not I feel like there is a enough time for me to put together a team to make this opportunity viable in the near future."

Notably, Forrester admitted that he currently lives in Hyde Park, which is outside District 7. Forrester said he knows he must move into the district soon in order to run for the seat and is looking to do so.

Forrester is not the only pol considering a run for the seat. Carlos Henriquez, who ran against Turner in 2007, is also looking at running .

The next election, Forrester said, is about offering a vision for the community.

"It is about forward movement in this community...It is about voting for the future," he said. "Some of my scope is based on really understanding from the grassroots level some of the challenges our community faces."
