Since leaving the Massachusetts Republican Party over the weekend, Robert Willington has signed on as executive director of RebuildTheParty.com, an online networking site that hopes to take the Republican Party in a new direction using technology.

Willington, who served as the Massachusetts GOP's executive director for three years, announced his new job on Tuesday in a blog post on the site.Willington had been rumored to be considering other ventures, including RebuildTheParty.com, but declined to comment on what those ventures were.

In the announcement, Willington discussed some of the goals of the organization.

"We are off to a great start and we will work together to expand our core of 7,000 plus members to 15,000 plus members before the RNC election to make a big impact," he said. "As you know, almost all of the candidates for Republican National Committee Chair are supporting the 10 point platform" of the organization.

Willington had focused on trying to enhance the Massachusetts GOP's use of technology during his tenure as executive director. In a recent letter to supporters, outgoing party Chairman Peter Torkildsen applauded Willington's efforts.

"Rob has been a terrific [executive director] this cycle, and is easily one of the most technologically sophisticated [executive directors]'s anywhere in the country, in any political party," Torkildsen wrote. "When you look at the advances that the Massachusetts GOP made in using technology this cycle, you should think of and thank Rob Willington."

Willington told PolitickerMA.com that the job is a perfect fit for him. In addition to its focus on online networking, it also allows him to stay in Massachusetts. 

In his announcement, Willington also said that the organization is already making positive strides.

"As RebuildTheParty.com states front and center, we are strengthening and modernizing the Republican Party," he wrote. "Spread the word among your network and encourage them to sign on as well... Only with a strong collective voice will we succeed in strengthening and modernizing the Republican Party."
