Boston City Councilor and potential mayoral candidate Sam Yoon finished 2008 with more than $132,000 in his campaign war chest, according to his most recent report with the Office Campaign and Political Finance.

The Dorchester Reporter reported last week that Yoon, of Dorchester, sent out a fundraising appeal in the final days of the month. In an email, Yoon asked supporters to boost his war chest to more than six figures.

"While I'm still considering all my options, the insiders say it takes a $100,000 going into next year to be competitive," Yoon wrote in the email, obtained by the Reporter. "It looks like we may fall just short of our year-end goal. That's why I'm asking you to please make a contribution of $100, $50, and $25 - anything you can afford."

The appeal worked, as Yoon raked in almost $70,000 in the final two weeks of December, more than doubling the size of his bank account.

The Reporter also noted that Yoon's wife, Christina, is a management consultant and an expert on fundraising.
