Cahill raises $145K in Dec.

Treasurer Tim Cahill, who has made murmurings suggesting he may challenge Gov. Deval Patrick in the Democratic primary for governor in 2010, hauled in nearly $145,000 in December, according to his bank deposit reports with the Office of Campaign and Political Finance.

Cahill's fundraising surpassed Patrick's, who raked in $139,000 in December. The Quincy Democrat only made eight deposits over the course of the month. On Dec. 31, though, Cahill made three deposits totaling nearly $50,000.

In November, Cahill refused to close the door on challenging Patrick in 2010 in an interview with the Boston Herald.

Cahill's most recent bank report, filed in the middle of December, showed that he had nearly $544,000 in his campaign checking account. That number does not take into consideration any deposits Cahill has made into savings accounts that yield a higher interest rate, a common practice among Bay State pols.
