Evangelidis backers launch blog

In another sign of a divided House Republican caucus, state Rep. Lewis Evangelidis and his supporters launched their own blog on Thursday calling for a "New Direction."

Evangelidis, a Holden Republican, lost his challenge to state Rep. Brad Jones for House minority leader on Wednesday in a nine to seven vote. After the vote, Evangelidis issued a statement blasting the caucus process and he and his supporters voted "present" during the speaker vote instead of casting their votes for Jones.

The new blog, "Campaign for a New Direction," lists all of Evangelidis' supporters as contributors. Those supporters are Reps. Todd Smola (Palmer), Susan Gifford (Wareham), Donald Humason (Westfield), Karyn Polito (Shrewsbury), Daniel Webster (Hanson) and Jeffrey Perry (Sandwich).

Notably, Jones, of North Reading, recently launched "The Capitol View," a blog that lists all of the caucus members as contributors.
