Coakley rallies against Question 2

Attorney General Martha Coakley said Friday that Question 2, the ballot measure that would decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana, sends the wrong message to children and adolescents.

Coakley, a Medford Democrat, was speaking at a conference with legal officials and school officials in Somerville.

McCormic supports Question 1, Rosenberg opposes

Republican state Senate challenger Keith McCormic supports Question 1, the ballot measure that would abolish the state income tax, according to a news report.

McCormic, of Greenfield, is challenging state Sen. Stanley Rosenberg in the Hampshire and Franklin state Senate district.

According to a report in the Daily Hampshire Gazette (sub. req.), McCormic spoke in support of the measure at the Question 1 rally last Saturday at Faneuil Hall.

Parente, Hogan pan Question 1

Republican Sonny Parente and Democrat Kate Hogan, the candidates vying for state Rep. Patricia Walrath's 3rd Middlesex District seat, agreed this week that Question 1's success would be bad for the Bay State.

Both said the measure, which would eliminate the state's income tax, would have disastrous effects on the state's fiscal standing.

Question 1 opponents launch web tool

Opponents of the ballot question that would eliminate the state income tax launched a website simulation Tuesday that allows viewers to see how much state funding their local community would lose if the measure succeeds, according to a spokesman for the Coalition for Our Communities campaign.

Anti-dog racing group plans television campaign

The group behind this year's ballot question that would prohibit dog racing in Massachusetts said Tuesday that they are planning on coupling a grassroots campaign with television advertising to get their message out.

The Committee to Protect Dogs hopes to convince voters to vote yes on Question 3 on this year's November ballot. Carey Theil, a senior advisor with the group, told PolitickerMA.com that they are already off and running and are planning a multi-faceted campaign.

State income tax abolition, dog racing ban and pot sentencing changes make ballot

A binding ballot initiative that will abolish the state income tax has petitioned enough signatures to appear on the November ballot, the Committee for Small Government announced Tuesday.

Initiatives that would ban dog racing in Massachusetts and reduce the penalty for possession of one ounce or less of Marijuana have also gathered more than the 11,099 signatures necessary to appear on the ballot in November, their supporters announced.
