Mass. GOP slams DiMasi re-election

The Massachusetts Republican Party blasted state House Democrats on Wednesday for re-electing Rep. Salvatore DiMasi as speaker in spite of recent allegations of ethical misconduct.

DiMasi, a Boston Democrat, was re-elected with overwhelming support on Wednesday. DiMasi collected the votes of 135 of the 159 representatives that voted, including all but eight Democrats.

Mass. GOP decries Aloisi pick as ‘hypocrisy’

The Massachusetts Republican Party jumped on Gov. Deval Patrick's selection of James Aloisi to be the state's next transportation secretary on Friday, blasting the governor for going back on his campaign promise to fight "Big Dig culture."

Patrick, a Milton Democrat, announced that Aloisi, a former general counsel for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, will take over for Bernard Cohen in the post at the beginning of next year.

Mass. GOP to launch Metrowest McCain operation

The Massachusetts Republican Party announced Friday that it will kick off its Metrowest operation to help John McCain and Sarah Palin win this year's presidential election.

The GOP is holding a Saturday event at Harry's Diner in Westborough. Jean Inman, the chairwoman of McCain's Massachusetts effort, state Rep. Karyn Polito (R-Shrewsbury) and former state Rep. Reed Hillman, the GOP's 2006 lieutenant governor nominee, will be in attendance.

Mass. GOP criticizes Patrick for appearing on Wilkerson auto-calls

The Massachusetts Republican Party criticized Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick late Friday for recording auto-calls for state Sen. Dianne Wilkerson. 

"It's no surprise that Deval Patrick is recording a call on behalf of an ethically challenged lawmaker considering his own ethically challenged history of making phone calls on behalf of subprime lender Ameriquest," said Barney Keller, the party's spokesman. 

The governor's office declined to comment on Keller's remarks.

Boston McCain backers launch Facebook group

Local supporters of GOP nominee John McCain are trying to make inroads into a medium that has, thus far, been dominated by Democratic nominee Barack Obama: Facebook.

McCain supporters have launched a "Boston calls for McCain" Facebook group where they are posting events and organizing phone banks at McCain's Boston campaign office. At the time of this writing, the group has 194 members, including Bay State GOP Chairman Peter Torkildsen, Executive Director Rob Willington, spokesman Barney Keller and former Gov. Jane Swift.

Kerry camp says Mass. GOP should check out Monster.Com, not TMZ

A spokesman for U.S. Sen. John Kerry (D-Boston) blasted the Massachusetts GOP Tuesday for their statement accompanying photos that surfaced TMZ.com earlier Tuesday.

Pictures of Kerry with college age kids that appear intoxicated in Nantucket were published on TMZ.com early Tuesday (PolitickerMA.com's Wally Edge commented on the photos here).
