Who watched Jon Stewart v. Jim Cramer Uncensored?

I don't have time for more than a drive-by post, but I'm surprised there's been know BMG conversation on the meme du jour, the extended and uncut Daily Show throwdown with CNBC's manic money mullah, Jim Cramer:

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.c... (caution: clips contain f-bombs)

The Boston Herald gave the interview a positive endorsement: It was an astounding half-hour, featuring more trenchant talk of the financial crisis and the responsibility of the networks than you'd find on any news channel, all the more surprising in that it aired on Comedy Central. It demonstrated once again why so many rely on Stewart for their news. Cramer deserves credit simply for showing up.

I'm curious as to what BMG has to say about this.

The hard working Republican Senate leadership

The Boston Herald reported Friday that every Republican in the State Senate receives at least $15,000 on top of their salary because they are considered members of the leadership team. How does that work? Apparently, there are five members of the minority party's leadership team. Since there are only five Republicans in the Senate, they all get big bonuses:
The state Senate’s five lone Republicans, spearheading a new campaign against the Democrats’ wasteful spending, are raking in more than $80,000 a year in taxpayer-funded stipends, each claiming a leadership title - even though they have nobody to lead.

All five members of the anemic Senate minority caucus boast a top-tier post, including a minority leader, an assistant minority leader, a “third assistant minority leader,” a minority whip and an assistant minority whip.

What's worse -- an actual bigot, or someone who pretends to be bigoted to make money?

This Phoenix article, by the always excellent Adam Reilly, is really astounding.  Howie Carr had Randy Price -- the openly gay, married to his husband, TV personality who was recently let go from his anchorman job at Channel 7 -- on his WRKO radio show recently.  You know, the radio show that is normally ground zero for
accompanying on-air references to homosexuality with a crude audio approximation of gay sex (the sound in question is actually former Boston city councilor David Scondras, who's gay, clearing his throat rather . . . emphatically).

Adam also reminds us about

Carr's occasional forays into gay-baiting (which, among other things, have included use of the phrase "sodomy lobby" in his Boston Herald column).

Senate votes against independent redistricting

Remember when Blue Mass Group endorsed the idea of placing an Independent commission in charge of redistricting, with hopes the state could avoid the problems of the past?

Remember how this idea was supported by the League of Women Voters, Common Cause, the NAACP, Oiste, the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, Govs. Dukakis and Romney, Barney Frank, and Deval Patrick?

And remember how a bill doing this exact thing was supported by 12 senators last year?

Yea, well the Senate rejected the idea on Thursday by a vote of 7-28.

From the SHNS account:

[The Republicans] noted that several of the Democrats now voting against independent redistricting - Sens.

The Boston Herald endorsed U.S. Sen. John Kerry Tuesday in his re-election bid against Republican Jeff Beatty.

Herald endorses Brown, Chang-Diaz, Haley, Vigeant

The Boston Herald endorsed four state House candidates this week.

The Herald noted in its editorial Monday that with so few competitive races this year, it makes picking candidates easier but that "in the interest of a thriving democracy we certainly hope this is the low point."

The daily backed Republican state Sen. Scott Brown in his race against Needham Democrat Sara Orozco in the Norfolk, Bristol and Middlesex District.
