Several pols to attend Kennedy ceremony Monday

A host of high profile elected officials, including Vice President-elect Joe Biden, is slated to attend Harvard University's convocation ceremony Monday during which it will bestow an honorary degree on U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

Harvard was originally slated to give Kennedy, a Hyannis Port Democrat, an honorary degree during its graduation ceremonies last June but that was delayed when Kennedy suffered a malignant brain tumor. The university decided to hold a ceremony on Monday solely to honor Kennedy.

Capuano won’t shut door on possible Senate run

CAMBRIDGE - Congressman Michael Capuano, a Democrat who is frequently named by political insiders as having high political aspirations, declined to rule out a run for the U.S. Senate should the opportunity present itself.

In an interview with PolitickerMA.com this week, Capuano, of Somerville, said he wouldn't rule out running but carefully qualified his answers by saying that he wasn't focused on the possibility.

Markey to campaign for Orozco, Conroy

Congressman Edward Markey is slated to appear at a sign standout and rally for state Senate candidate Sara Orozco and state Rep. Tom Conroy on Thursday, according to Orozco's campaign.

Markey, a Malden Democrat, will headline a rally at Wayland Center on Thursday, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

U.S. Rep. Edward Markey reported a hefty war chest of over $2.6 million at end of the second quarter but did not dole out much of it to fellow Democrats, according to the Federal Election Commission report.
