Newly elected reps hear dismal economic forecast at Harvard conference

CAMBRIDGE - Forty newly elected members of Congress gathered Thursday morning to hear some of Massachusetts' finest economists discuss the current crisis and possible remedies.

And one thing became clear very quickly: No one knows a surefire way out of the mess.

A year before Election Day, there's already a crowded field in the race to become Newton's next mayor, making this one of the most exciting contests of the 2009 cycle.

In the face of a looming fiscal crisis, Mayor David Cohen announced earlier this year that he would not seek a fourth term, sparking at least five candidates to announce or float the idea that they are running for the seat.
