After loss, Evangelidis rips process and Beacon Hill ‘insiders’

BOSTON -- Shortly after losing his challenge to state Rep. Brad Jones for minority leader, Rep. Lewis Evangelidis sharply criticized the GOP's caucus process and blamed Beacon Hill "insiders" for his defeat.

Evangelidis narrowly lost to Jones earlier Wednesday by a vote of nine to seven.

In a statement, Evangelidis said his efforts to defeat Jones were unfairly squashed.

Evangelidis declares candidacy for House minority leader

BOSTON - Coming right out of a House Republican caucus meeting in current Minority Leader Brad Jones' office Wednesady, state Rep. Lewis Evangelidis said that he is running for minority leader.

"I have said that I would like to seek the leadership of this party," Evangelidis, a Holden Republican, told PolitickerMA.com. "We have an election every two years, no one has a right to be leader. And I would like to offer a vision and work with the caucus to lead us in a direction that will allow us to grow our numbers."

Sources: GOP caucus meeting at 12:30 p.m.

Three Republican staffers tell PolitickerMA.com that the House Republican caucus will be meeting today at 12:30 p.m. in Minority Leader Brad Jones' office.

According to a report by the State House News Service on Tuesday, the meeting will address state Rep. Lewis Evangelidis' planned challenge to Jones for his post as Minority Leader.
