Who we are and what we stand for - The Massachusetts Democratic Party Platform

Is a platform a list of positions, policies and programs that Democrats support?  Is it a document that is discussed and enacted every four years to be put on the shelf?  I hope it is more than that.

In the last two years since I was honored to be elected to lead the Massachusetts Democratic Party, I have been asking people about our platform.  Most conversations have been fairly short.  "Have you read our platform?" I'd ask.  It's a little unfair because to be honest, I only read it just before declaring my candidacy for Chair - and then just in case someone asked if I had.

2009 Democratic Platform: Seeking Your Input

As previous posters have noted, the Massachusetts Democratic Party is in the process of drafting the 2009 Platform, and is looking to make that process as inclusive and transparent as possible. As the co-chair of the Public Policy Committee for the Democratic Party, I'm interested in hearing from as many people as possible about the Democratic values you think our platform should reflect and what specific policies it should prioritize.

I want to encourage anyone who is interested in this process to attend a Platform hearing - or better yet, host your own. More information is available on the Massachusetts Democratic Party

BMG/Other Platform Meeting on Education?

Kate and Deb do a great job describing the process of holding a meeting regarding the Massachusetts Democratic Party platform.  I have elsewhere heard that meetings can be focused on a specific region or issue.

I want to hold a platform meeting on education.  Wanna come?
The state platform on education can be found here, and a brief summary breaks down very roughly as:

*  Keep improving schools on model of the Education Reform Act of 1993.
*  Funding education is more important than cutting taxes
*  No money/vouchers for private or religious schools
*  Challenging standards, accountable teachers.  Graduation should not be based wholely on passing MCAS
*  Do what it takes to get good teachers.
