Hecht reflects on primary win

Fresh off his primary win, state Representative-elect Jonathan Hecht reflected on what made his campaign effective Wednesday.

At this point, he has no opposition in the general election and is therefore likely to succeed Rachel Kaprielian in Middlesex County's 29th District seat.

Hecht wins primary

Jonathan Hecht has won the Democratic primary in Middlesex County's 29th District state House seat, according to Watertown election officials.

Officials in the Watertown clerk's office told PolitickerMA.com Wednesday that Hecht received 2,152 votes. Julia Fahey, a Watertown attorney, received 1,555 votes and Watertown Councilor Steven Corbett drew 298 votes. Jonathan Weisbuch received just nine votes.

Because the race was determined solely by sticker and write-in votes, results were not available late into Tuesday night.

Hecht readies for primary

Jonathan Hecht spent the weekend traversing Middlesex County's 29th District, making his final push before Tuesday's state House primary.

When state Rep. Rachel Kaprielian (D-Watertown) decided she would not seek reelection, choosing instead to head the Registry of Motor Vehicles, Julia Fahey was immediately intrigued.

With an open ballot, the race for Kaprielian's seat heats up

Democrats in the 29th Middlesex district were still reeling from state Rep. Rachel Kaprielian's (D) announcement that she will not seek re-election, when, on June 3, the Democratic committees in Watertown and Cambridge's ninth ward decided against naming a nominee for the November election. Speculation in the district has percolated since, as the prospect of a sticker ballot with a wide open field for the Sept. 16 primary has spread through the district.
