Positive campaign took the day, says Lewis

In Middlesex's 31st District, Democrat Jason Lewis said Tuesday night that sticking with a positive campaign helped him win.

With 100 precincts reporting, Lewis  defeated Republican Brian O'Connor and Independent Chad Riley, 52 percent to 24 percent to 24 percent, respectively.

Hayes: Loss symptomatic of anti-Republican undercurrent

Republican Kurt Hayes, who is projected to lose the race for Middlesex's 37th House District to Lunenburg Democrat Jen Benson, said Tuesday night he was proud of his campaign but it was hard for any Republican to win this year.

Hayes, of Boxborough, was seeking to fill the seat vacated by state Rep. Jamie Eldridge, who ran for the state Senate this year.

Resor, Benson, Eldridge on Election Day

ACTON - Standing outside a polling place here, retiring state Sen. Pam Resor, state Rep. Jamie Eldridge and state House candidate Jen Benson said how much they are already enjoying Election Day.

"It's exciting," Benson, a Lunenburg Democrat, said. "I like greeting people as they come over to vote."

Hayes: I’d support rolling back the income tax to 5%

Jen Benson, the Lunenburg Democrat running for Middlesex County's 37th District House seat, said Tuesday that Question 1 could have a significant negative impact on the state's fiscal status.

At debate, Hayes and Benson agree on returning $450 million in state aid to cities and towns

DEVENS - At a debate Monday night, Republican Kurt Hayes and Democrat Jen Benson, who are competing in Middlesex's 37th District, agreed that the $450 million that was diverted from state aide to the state's rainy day fund should be returned.

The debate, sponsored by the Nashoba Valley Chamber of Commerce and Nashoba Publishing and held at the Devens Common Center, featured candidates for the state House of Representatives in Middlesex's 1st, 2nd and 37th District.

Miscommunication leads to scheduling mishap in Benson, Hayes forum
