GOP 2012 Pres. Rankings -- Updated!

It's time to reveal the new rankings of the 25 most likely 2012 Republican Presidential nominees -- updating from my rankings entering 2009, and at the end of February. And get excited, there's a new number one!

It's been an active couple of months for the Presidential wannabes, as they have shuffled to position themselves on the federal stimulus package, the federal budget, the Tax Day Tea Parties, and anything else that provides a platform for posturing.

Then there's the defection of Arlen Specter, who left because GOP primary voters wanted him gone. So... if you're sucking up to GOP primary voters, what's your response? (And if you're hoping to win the GOP Pres.

Who's Anti-Pi?

The US House of Representatives just passed a resolution declaring March 14 "Pi Day." Math nerds will understand why it's on that particular date.

Ten Republicans voted against the resolution. What do they have against pi? Why don't they want it to have its own day? Are they partial to some other ratio, that has not received an honorary day? Is pi somehow partisan in nature?

Perhaps they are taking sides in the Great Debate: apparently real math nerds shun March 14, in favor of "Pi Approximation Day" on July 22. You see, pi = 22/7, which is how July 22 is written in countries where they put the month first.

Top 25 For 2012 GOP Nod, Updated!

Mitt Romney is still the man, at least among the mostly young, mostly rabid conservatives at CPAC; he won the conference's straw poll for the next Republican Presidential nominee with 20 percent of the vote. That's three years in a row for Mitt.

As CPAC closes out to the dulcet tones of the right's dear leader, Rush Limbaugh, I have decided to update my ranking of the 25 most likely people to win the 2012 Republican Presidential nomination, made two months ago. I'll get to that below.

Just to wrap up for now about CPAC, however... The message from what I've seen is: Republicans -- and particularly George W.

Mitt Vs. Harry Reid?

If you're looking to sell a palatial estate in Nevada, I think I might know somebody who'll be looking to buy soon.

You may have noticed that Mitt Romney is once again a ubiquitous presence, making speeches, doing fundraisers, getting interviewed on cable news, sitting down with Time Magazine, etc. etc. -- and getting talked about as a potential HHS Secretary or Economic Advisor or whatever else comes up. The pace is only going to increase: later this month he's booked for a huge DC fundraiser for his own PAC, a Virginia fundraiser for Barbara Comstock, the California state GOP convention in Sacramento, and back to DC for the conservative CPAC conference.

Kennedy emails for Reid: ‘Give ‘Em Hell Harry’

U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy recently emailed Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's supporters seeking contributions to help Reid win re-election in 2010 and indicating that Reid is already the target of the GOP in 2010, according to the email obtained by PolitickerMA.com.

Kennedy, a Hyannis Port Democrat, praises Reid in the email, saying he is grateful Reid is the majority leader. Republicans, Kennedy wrote, know Reid is pivotal to the Democrats' agenda and are already looking to unseat him in 2010 as they did to former Majority Leader Tom Daschle in 2004.

Romney on McCain's path to victory

Former Gov. Mitt Romney said Monday that GOP presidential nominee's John McCain's economic plan is helping him close the gap in pivotal states he must carry to win the presidency on Tuesday.

Speaking via satellite from Toledo, Ohio, on MSNBC's Morning Joe, Romney, a Belmont Republican and 2008 presidential contender, said recent Mason-Dixon polling shows McCain closing ground.

Romney to pull Vegas double header

After crashing the Democratic National Convention in Denver next Tuesday, Romney (R-Belmont) is scheduled to attend two events for the Nevada Republican Party Wednesday.

As PolitickerMA.com reported Thursday, Romney will headline at a fundraising luncheon for the Nevada GOP in Las Vegas next Wednesday.

Then Romney will "host" a rally for presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain in Las Vegas the same afternoon, according to an invitation sent by the Nevada GOP that PolitickerMA.com has obtained.
