As the RNC gathers for its big meeting, and to elect a chairman (reports suggest Duncan, but don't count out Krazy Katon Dawson!): 

--Dan rightly takes Jeff Jacoby to task for perpetuating the bogus CBO report figures, but I'll do him one better: the House Minority Whip (and 19th Scariest Conservative!) repeating the lie to Marc Ambinder last night as his #1 problem with the stimulus bill: "I think first of all you have to focus spending on actual stimulus. You've got CBO saying that  only 25 percent goes out in the first year."

--Iowa Senator Charles Grassley, rumored to be facing a challenge from the religious right in 2010, surveys the nation's problems and singles out.

Tsongas applauds Obama’s cabinet picks for balance of experienced and new thinking

CAMBRIDGE - Congresswoman Niki Tsongas on Thursday praised President-elect Barack Obama's selections for his cabinet and said she is glad he is selecting some newer voices as part of his administration.

"I think he's composed a team of rivals of enormous stature and ability," Tsongas, a Lowell Democrat, told PolitickerMA.com, referencing Doris Kearns Goodwin's book on President Abraham Lincoln's advisors by that name.

Several pols to attend Kennedy ceremony Monday

A host of high profile elected officials, including Vice President-elect Joe Biden, is slated to attend Harvard University's convocation ceremony Monday during which it will bestow an honorary degree on U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

Harvard was originally slated to give Kennedy, a Hyannis Port Democrat, an honorary degree during its graduation ceremonies last June but that was delayed when Kennedy suffered a malignant brain tumor. The university decided to hold a ceremony on Monday solely to honor Kennedy.

Murray leads bus trip to N.H., touts importance of Patrick’s relationship with Obama

Lt. Gov. Tim Murray, in route to New Hampshire Saturday to volunteer for Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama and other Democrats in the Granite State, said Gov. Deval Patrick's close relationship with Obama would greatly help Massachusetts if Obama is elected.

Tsongas to make 4-stop N.H. tour on Saturday

Congresswoman Niki Tsongas is scheduled to make four stops in New Hampshire Saturday to help get out the vote for Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, according to the Obama campaign.

Tsongas will start the day in Littleton for a 9:45 a.m. canvass kickoff event. At 12:30 p.m., she'll attend another canvassing event in Plymouth before heading to the coordinated campaign office in Laconia at 1:40 p.m. She'll wrap up at 3:15 at another get out the vote event in Concord.

Congresswoman Niki Tsongas isn't facing a challenger in this year's election but that isn't preventing her from keeping busy through Election Day.

Tsongas likes longtime friend Biden in VP role

DENVER – U.S. Rep. Niki Tsongas (D-Lowell) on Monday lauded presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama’s selection of U.S. Sen. Joe Biden as his running mate, saying Biden, a longtime friend, will boost the Democratic ticket in the fall.

“It’s a very solid choice that will serve the party well,” Tsongas told PolitickerMA.com.
