Avella airs new ad during Monday Night Football

Republican state House candidate Paul Avella launched a new television ad during the New England Patriots football game Monday night, according to his campaign.

Avella is running against Westford Democrat Jim Arciero for Middlesex County's 2nd District seat .

"Patriots didn't win three world championships by executing a failed play book," the Littleton Republican said. "They changed strategy and tactics and acquired new talent. But improving our lives is no game. We can change, it's not too late. I bring that change."

All candidates at Monday debate oppose Question 1

DEVENS - All the candidates that the debate Monday night opposed Question 1, the measure that would repeal the state income tax.

From Middlesex County's 1st District, Republican state Rep. Robert Hargraves of Groton, Groton Democrat Virginia Wood and Pepperell Independent Zachary Saboliauskas all said they oppose it.

As do, Westford Democrat Jim Arciero and Littleton Republican Paul Avella, the candidates for Middlesex County's 2nd District.

Arciero and Avella agree school expenditures should be left to towns

DEVENS - Democrat Jim Arciero and Republican Paul Avella agreed Monday night that education expenditures should be left to towns and cities and that the state should not place a cap on per student construction costs.

Avella beats Bunker, looking forward to general against Arciero

Paul Avella, the Republican running for Middlesex County's 2nd District House seat, trounced his primary opponent Tuesday night and said he is looking forward to taking on Jim Arciero in the general election.

Avella beat Republican contender William Bunker by 80 points in Tuesday's GOP primary. Arciero, a longtime Beacon Hill aide, bested Chelmsford selectman Pat Wojtas by 32 percentage points.

Paul Avella, the Republican seeking to replace state Rep. Geoff Hall in Middlesex County's 2nd District, is running a television ad leading up to the primary Tuesday.

Avella (R-Littleton) is facing a little known opponent, William Bunker, in the GOP primary. If he wins on Tuesday, he will face the winner of the Democratic primary between Jim Arciero and Chelmsford Board Selectman Pat Wojtas in the general election.

Middlesex-2 primed for exciting House race

The race for the open state House seat in Middlesex's 2nd district is shaping up to be one of the most competitive this election cycle.

The seat was vacated when state Rep. Geoff Hall (D-Westford) retired at the end of April. And because the district, which includes all of Westford, Littleton and three precincts of Chelmsford, has a more moderate bent - former Republican Gov. Paul Cellucci used to represent part of the district in the state Senate - Republicans have honed in on it as a seat they hope to pick up.
