Mass. GOP remembers Fondacaro

Longtime members of the Massachusetts Republican Party remembered former state Treasurer Alfred Fondacaro fondly on Thursday for his tireless work for the party.

Fondacaro died on Nov. 28 at 80 years old from complications of pneumonia, according to the Boston Globe's obituary.

Manzoli ‘open’ to running for GOP chair

Joe Manzoli, Republican U.S. Senate challenger Jeff Beatty's campaign manager this year, said over the weekend that he is considering running for chairman of the Massachusetts Republican Party.

"I'm open to it," Manzoli told PolitickerMA.com. "I've received probably 15 emails from people asking me to run."

Manzoli said he has not decided whether he will run or not because he just returned from a two-week trip to Italy with his wife.

Ogonowski a no go on Mass. GOP chair

Jim Ogonowski said Friday that he is definitely not interested in running for chairman of the Massachusetts GOP.

"Never even considered it," Ogonowski, a Dracut Republican, told PolitickerMA.com.

Ogonowski became a rising star of the Republican Party during his run against Congresswoman Niki Tsongas in the 2007 special election for the 5th Congressional District. Ogonowski was also set to challenge U.S. Sen. John Kerry this year until he failed to submit enough signatures to get on the primary ballot.

Torkildsen not seeking re-election as GOP chair

Peter Torkildsen said Wednesday that he has decided not to seek re-election to his post as chairman of the Massachusetts GOP, the Associated Press reports.

In spite of losing three seats from its already small minority in the state House of Representatives, Torkildsen had been rumored to be seeking re-election.

Nassour looks to bring fight back to Mass. GOP

The Massachusetts Republican Party needs serious change, Republican Party Chair candidate Jennifer Nassour said Monday. Nassour, of Charlestown, is challenging current Republican Chair Peter Torkildsen for his job.

In an interview with PolitickerMA.com, Nassour said she is tired of Republicans in Massachusetts getting walked on by Democrats and the numerous scandals on Beacon Hill.

Boston McCain backers launch Facebook group

Local supporters of GOP nominee John McCain are trying to make inroads into a medium that has, thus far, been dominated by Democratic nominee Barack Obama: Facebook.

McCain supporters have launched a "Boston calls for McCain" Facebook group where they are posting events and organizing phone banks at McCain's Boston campaign office. At the time of this writing, the group has 194 members, including Bay State GOP Chairman Peter Torkildsen, Executive Director Rob Willington, spokesman Barney Keller and former Gov. Jane Swift.
