Teabag thuggery in Worcester

Reader billxi writes in approvingly of the story of US Reps Jim McGovern and Richard Neal getting shouted down by teabagging thugs in Worcester.

WORCESTER —  U.S. Reps. James P. McGovern and Richard E. Neal were heckled and booed after trying to rally support today for President Barack Obama's plan for a comprehensive national health insurance program.

The two Worcester-area Democratic lawmakers were shouted down several times by people attending a packed “town hall” meeting at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

UMass officials threatened several times to end the gathering because of the raucous behavior, which occurred despite a heavy police presence.

Neal on the U.S. Senate, Kerry joining an Obama administration and competitive State House races

Congressman Richard Neal said Sunday night that he isn't interested in pursuing the United States Senate, that he isn't sure if John Kerry would join an Obama administration and that he is focused on a couple state House races in his 2nd Congressional District.

In a brief but wide-ranging phone interview with PolitickerMA.com Sunday, Neal, a Springfield Democrat, said the speculation surrounding whether Kerry would be tapped for a cabinet spot in an Obama administration is "a bit premature."

While his Republican challenger, Jeff Beatty, went to three sign standouts Sunday, U.S. Sen. John Kerry was in Washington D.C. Sunday morning to appear on NBC's Meet the Press. According to his campaign, Kerry returned to Massachusetts immediately afterward and attended a get out the vote rally in Shrewsbury with Congressmen Richard Neal (D-Springfield) and Jim McGovern (D-Worcester). Capuano won’t shut door on possible Senate run

CAMBRIDGE - Congressman Michael Capuano, a Democrat who is frequently named by political insiders as having high political aspirations, declined to rule out a run for the U.S. Senate should the opportunity present itself.

In an interview with PolitickerMA.com this week, Capuano, of Somerville, said he wouldn't rule out running but carefully qualified his answers by saying that he wasn't focused on the possibility.

Neal to host Irish American rally for Obama in Philly

Congressman Richard Neal is set to host two get-out-the-vote rallies in Philadelphia Saturday, according to Barack Obama's campaign.

The Springfield Democrat will join Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz (D-Pa.) for the first event at 1:30 p.m. and will then host a second event at 5:30 p.m. Both are geared toward Obama's Irish American supporters.
