Hargraves with Jones

Republican state Rep. Robert Hargraves said late Thursday that he will vote for state Rep. Brad Jones to remain House minority leader in January.

"I am definitely going to continue to support Brad Jones," Hargraves told PolitickerMA.com. "He has done a lot to help me."

Republican state Rep. Lewis Evangelidis, of Holden, announced earlier this week that he intends to challenge Jones, of North Reading, for his post in January.

Wood and Hargraves clash over earmarks

DEVENS - Republican state Rep. Robert Hargraves and his Democratic challenger, Virginia Wood, clashed Monday night over earmarks in the debate held at the Devens Common Center.

Wood, also of Groton, took issue with Hargraves' blanket opposition to earmarks.

Hargraves, Wood, and Saboliauskas disagree on increasing charter school funding

DEVENS - At the debate here Monday night, Virginia Wood, the Democrat challenging state Rep. Robert Hargraves in Middlesex County's 1st District, disagreed with the lawmaker on whether to increase the funding for charter schools.

Asked whether the candidates would be expanding the 9 percent of the state school budget currently dedicated to charter schools, Wood, of Groton, said the state can't afford it.

All candidates at Monday debate oppose Question 1

DEVENS - All the candidates that the debate Monday night opposed Question 1, the measure that would repeal the state income tax.

From Middlesex County's 1st District, Republican state Rep. Robert Hargraves of Groton, Groton Democrat Virginia Wood and Pepperell Independent Zachary Saboliauskas all said they oppose it.

As do, Westford Democrat Jim Arciero and Littleton Republican Paul Avella, the candidates for Middlesex County's 2nd District.

State Rep. looks forward to speech tonight, says McCain has 'big shoes to fill'

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- State Rep. Robert Hargraves said Thursday that presumptive GOP presidential nominee John McCain will break the mold of the typical acceptance speech Thursday night, highlighting his uniqueness as a candidate.

Hargraves, a delegate from Groton, said he is looking forward to McCain's speech, even though "he's got big shoes to fill after Sarah," referring to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's primetime speech Wednesday night.
