Kerry: Clinton confirmation hearing set for next Thursday

U.S. Sen. John Kerry announced on Wednesday that the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, of which he is the incoming chair, will hold confirmation hearings for U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton to become secretary of state next Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Kerry, a Boston Democrat, also announced that the committee will hold a confirmation hearing for Susan Rice to become United Nations ambassador on Thursday, Jan. 15.

Rasmussen: Nearly 80 percent approve of Obama transition

Nearly 80 percent of Massachusetts voters approve of Barack Obama's performance as president-elect, according to a new Rasmussen Reports poll.

Fifty-five percent of respondents of the poll, which was conducted on Dec. 9, said they "strongly approve" of Obama's performance.

NBC: Obama to nominate Clinton for sec. of state

U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton has accepted President-elect Barack Obama's offer to become secretary of state, NBC News is reporting.

It remains unclear when Obama (D-Ill.) plans to formally nominate Clinton (D-N.Y.).

U.S. Sen. John Kerry (D-Boston) was said to have been on Obama's short list for the position.

Card: Clinton would be an interesting choice for sec. of state

Former White House Chief of Staff Andy Card said Tuesday morning that he is intrigued by the prospect of U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton becoming President-elect Barack Obama's secretary of state.

Card, a Holbrook Republican, was on the set of MSNBC's Morning Joe Tuesday morning for more than an hour. Asked about the current speculation surrounding Clinton, a New York Democrat, Card said her selection would present an interesting opportunity for New York Gov. David Paterson.

Andrea Mitchell, one of NBC's top political reporters, hinted Friday morning that there isn't a lot of excitement among President-elect Barack Obama's transition team about the possibility of U.S. Sen. John Kerry becoming secretary of state.

If Sen. John Kerry does vacate his seat for a job in Barack Obama's administration, Massachusetts will hold a special election for the seat with somewhat complicated rules which would require candidates, parties and election officials to scramble.
